In response to your question (Is there a chronic shortage of QSs in the UK? QS News, 16 September) – in a nutshell, Yes!

I manage a moderately sized consultancy and we are continuously looking for suitable QSs to service the ever increasing demand.

We interview at least two candidates a week but in most, if not all, cases the QSs interviewed are fairly happy where they are but are simply looking at the ever increasing packages that we are having to offer. Over the past 12 months the situation has become even more critical and this unfortunately has not been reflected as yet within the rates that we are able to command from our clients. However, in my opinion, it will not be too long before rates will rise, which will

in turn fuel the movement of staff around the industry. What is more worrying is that there appears to be very little increase in QSs coming into the industry and also the influx of Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans has all but dried up.
