RMJM, the UK-based international architectural and engineering practice is to merge with Hillier, one of the largest firms of architects in the US.

The deal creates a company with offices in 16 cities across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, with approximately 1,000 design professionals and with more than £7 billion in construction value of buildings currently under design.

Hillier was established in 1966 and the deal will give RMJM a foothold in the North American market, where the firm will be branded as RMJM Hillier.

Services offered by RMJM include M&E and sustainability consultancy. A spokesperson said that as a result of the merger it was likely that similar services would be developed in the North American market.

Peter Morrison, chief executive officer of the RMJM Group, said: “The new firm will draw on a skillset from our diverse and experienced professionals that is unmatched and can be perfectly tailored to meet the design needs of all companies on our client base.”

The merger was completed on 19 June.
