Renowned as one of London's most exclusive hotels, The Lanesborough has played host to global megastars including Madonna and Michael Jackson. Top level security systems are a 'must have', and when it came to upgrading the hotel's in-house systems director of security Charles Smith turned to Dedicated Micros.
Until now, the hotel has been using a set-up based on 40 cameras, three Series 2 multiplexers and keyboards, a Baxall matrix for dome control, three VCRs and stacks of videos.
"The original installation wasn't integrated," said Smith. "From a physical point of view there was a lot of equipment to manage, and over 100 tapes to be stored." The Lanesborough's high profile guests are now protected by Dedicated Micros' Digital Sprite Lite. Although the same number of cameras prevail, the digital system needs only one keyboard that can control all the domes directly (with no need for a separate matrix).
The 'one box' recording system is designed to overwrite the oldest images automatically – with no need to think about changing tapes. Not only that, Digital Sprite Lite's in-built activity detector completely removes the need for alarm sensors.
