Compass Group's education catering company Scolarest has secured new contracts with three Barnsley schools, worth more than £2.4m per year.
Scolarest will serve up meals from its new range of in-house brands to more than 3,500 pupils and teachers at Penistone Grammar School, Penistone, The Kingstone School and Elmhirst School, both in Barnsley.

At both Penistone Grammar and The Kingstone School, Scolarest will also carry out major refurbishment to the schools' dining facilities before the autumn term.

The three-year contract with Penistone Grammar is worth £990,000 in total turnover. Over the next six months the school will be given a £48,000 cash injection, which will help to convert the sixth form dining facilities into a café.

Further refurbishment will take place in the main dining hall and Scolarest will also create a new 80-seater diner for Year Eleven students by converting two classrooms.

Scolarest's five-year contract at The Kingstone School is valued at £1.3m in annual turnover. The catering firm plans to invest £45,000 on a new counter and servery, with new till points and refrigerated displays.
