Some 520 NHS staff in the South-east this week secured £10,000 in equity loans towards their first home. The money comes from the second, £20m phase of the DTLR’s starter-home initiative for key workers.
Of the 2000 key workers in the South-east, the South-west, eastern England and the West Midlands, the South-east got the largest allocation, with 1023 loans agreed by the DTLR. Eastern England was a runner-up, with 544 allocations. Hampshire received cash for 132 loans.
The allocations were made after bids to administer the loans were assessed by the DTLR and Housing Corporation. Most schemes will be run by housing associations.
The government loosely defines key workers as being staff in the health, teaching and police sectors. But some firefighters, social workers, occupational therapists and bus drivers will also receive starter-home funding.
