'Mind out for mental health' is an England-wide campaign to stop the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health. It is managed by the Department of Health and the National Institute for Mental Health. The aim is to encourage people to recognise the signs of mental health problems and learn how to look after themselves and colleagues.
Signs can include:
- Changes in usual patterns of behaviour
- Withdrawal from colleagues
- Rapid mood changes
- Under-performing or over-performing
- Tiredness, irritability, tearfulness
- Poor timekeeping
- Inability to concentrate
- Increased use of alcohol, cigarettes or drugs
- Loss of sense of humour
- Increased sick leave
Early detection is important and a combination of these signs could indicate a problem. If you think a colleague may be experiencing mental health problems, try to encourage them to talk to their GP for help and advice.
