South Somerset Homes has been given a clean bill of health by the Housing Corporation, which has removed it from supervision.
The registered social landlord was a victim of the government’s plans to restructure rents to bring housing association and council rents in line, but has now satisfied the corporation’s regulation team.

SSH, which has 8800 homes in south Somerset, was put under supervision in August last year because the Housing Corporation felt it needed to rework its business plan and there were concerns over its governance.

The plan assumed rent increases at the retail price index plus 1%, but such rent hikes were scuppered by the RPI-plus-0.5% cap set by the government.

Arthur Dove and Tony MacGregor were added to SSH’s board by the corporation.

But following what SSH called “a series of improvements”, these appointments will expire at the end of the month.
