Situated close to South Africa’s East Coast, Pietermaritzburg has earned a reputation as one of the southern hemisphere’s foremost cities of culture. Home to 230,000 people, it is a dynamically commercial, educational and industrial centre and a former Boer settlement.

However, rising crime in the central business district has had a negative impact on the commercial world, with tourists and residents alike avoiding the area. As a result, the ‘Business Against Crime’ Group decided to use the latest evolution of Synectics’ SynergyPro control software (which allows detailed daily reports to be generated for each incident category).

The ‘sweep’ programme for the cameras is changed on a regular basis to avoid potential offenders being able to learn the patterns.

This installation allows manual control from four lone stations.
