Your excellent article ‘House of Cards’ (CM, February) at least sheds some light on the reasons behind the many anomalies concerning CSCS cards that currently exist within the industry.

Why, for instance, do certain NHS Trusts and Local Authorities allow contractors to not only tender for schemes, but also allow them to carry them out, knowing that none of their operatives array a CSCS card, or indeed has undergone any of the appropriate health and safety training?

Assuming the various Trusts and Local Authorities we count as clients ensure that our competitors complete the same questionnaires we do, then they must be aware of the shortcomings of some of the firms they choose to use.

We can only assume that price is the deciding factor and not the quality of training or skills in the workforce.
