Did my third safety training course this week. The software was brilliant and mum thought the chart of reportable accidents I did looked so good I put it up in the site hut. The boss liked it too but said all the red bits spoiled the look so I changed some of the figures to get more blue bits on. He says we can use it in the new company brochure.
The boss bought me a magnetic whiteboard to go with my new desk. Carol was holding it while I screwed it to the partition wall, but I got a bit of a shock when one of the screws hit a power cable and the board fell off and hit Carol on the head. I haven’t done a first aid course yet so I left her there until she came round. She sat up after half an hour and we had a cup of tea and joked about it although she was a bit quiet all afternoon and finished work early. Must get that first aid course booked.
Week 4
The boss came up with a great idea this week. On any of our sites where there are no reportable accidents the boys will get a bonus to share out. I went on site to explain it to them, but they said they just wouldn’t report any accidents and so get the bonus every time. I told the boss and he laughed and said my charts would look even better from now on.
The main contractor’s health and safety manager asked me to do some toolbox meetings this week. I took my toolbox along and stood on it so all the boys could see me when I was talking but they just laughed. So I gave them all two forms to fill out and that shut them up.
I much prefer it in the office now. Being on site is really dangerous as far as I can see, though Carol says the office has become a disaster area. I’ll have to do a safety audit to find out what the problem is.
