The fifth annual Building Services Awards ceremony was bigger and brighter than ever. The event got off to a dramatic start with explosive fireworks, before a change to the past proceedings saw two of the top awards being presented at the start of the evening.
The accolade for the newly created Engineers Taking The Lead award went to Hoare Lea Consulting Engineers, who was judged by EMC's sister title Building Services Journal to have done the most to promote and progress the profession over the past 12 months.
The three finalists for the Apprentice of the Year award were next up on stage to collect their certificates, before Mark Stewart was announced the 2002 winner of this ever-popular award. The 19-year-old Northern Ireland apprentice works with Weir & McQuiston of Newtonard.
After enjoying a gourmet meal, the audience in the Great Room of Le Meridien Grosvenor House Hotel settled down to the main proceedings, led by impressionist Jon Culshaw.
Following Culshaw's renditions of famous celebrities, a further 15 awards were presented to the proud and worthy recipients before the audience moved upstairs for the evening's finale – the charity casino.
Once again the casino proved to be a resounding success, with the proceeds raising valuable funds for the worthy cause of the EEIBA.
Congratulations to all the winners and finalists. And if you missed out on this year's party, get ready for 2003 – things can only get better.
