Deal includes Modular Wiring Systems subsidiary

Tratos, the UK distribution subsidiary of electrical cable manufacturer Tratos Cavi of Italy, has completed the acquisition of North West Cables and its subsidiary Modular Wiring Systems.

The deal grows the group to £20 million with 75 employees in the UK and 150 million euros with 350 employees worldwide. It has also resulted in all UK manufacturing being transferred to the bespoke Knowsley facility to allow for seamless manufacturing. Further staff have been employed at Knowsley to allow for the increased output – good news for British manufacturing during difficult times.

John Light, group managing director, UK believes “the purchase is of strategic importance to give us a manufacturing operation here, particularly as it is based in what was once the heartland of the British cable industry. It brings on board the vast experience of many personnel including Neil Ancell who will continue in his role as managing director.

“In addition, taking over the Modular Wiring Systems business puts us at the forefront in this area which is based on a rapidly and easily installed modular sub-circuit distribution system prefabricated off-site. We are now able to offer a product with more control over the quality than most competitors as cable, armouring and assembly will be fully regulated in house .”

Under the new ownership, North West Cables has become Tratos, whilst Modular Wiring Systems will retain its name and become a Tratos Group company.

Whilst already established in the UK the Group aims to develop its current client base and new ones looking for improved delivery times, whilst maintaining recognised quality certification including BASEC, Lloyds Register and LPCB.
