Ujima housing association is to explore the creation of homes overseas, new chief executive Hassett Auguste has revealed
Auguste, who started at the leading black and minority ethnic housing group in September, said it would be logical for the organisation to look at offering housing provision in African countries.

"Many elders go back to Africa or send money back there to build homes. Ujima is a brand, a trusted brand, and there is an argument about whether the board would countenance – without risking the asset base in this country – looking at provision there. It would be a logical extension of our business."

Ujima was subject to a critical pathfinder Housing Corporation inspection (see link, below), but the review also praised the registered social landlord's speed in implementing an action plan to put right the problems.
