Ten VCL employees who underwent parent company Honeywell's Six Sigma Plus business improvement programme have become the first in the company to achieve 'Green Belt' certification.
The management approach emphasises quality improvement focusing on customer and stakeholder requirements, and the training programme has been designed to iron out defects caused by variations in processes.
According to VCL, the average company operates at Three Sigma, which equates to 66,000 defects per million opportunities, while a company at Six Sigma is virtually defect-free, with only 3.4 defects per million opportunities.
Six Sigma Black Belt, Stephen Pugh, said:
"Six Sigma Plus ensures that we create and deliver value to our customers and stakeholders by eliminating process variation wherever possible."
