The office sector take-up of property saw a slight decrease in the six months to 31 March 2001 according to the Jones Lang LaSalle 50 Centres national guide to prime rents. The highest office rents achieved were £35 per sq ft reported in Hammersmith and Maidenhead. There has been some uncertainty in the retail sector over the survey period but across the country as a whole, there has been a growth in rents of over 1.1 per cent over six months and three per cent over the past year. Over the six months to 31 March, prime industrial centres have seen occupier demand drop slightly, in particular, the demand from the telecommunications sector. The more traditional occupier base of distribution, storage and light manufacturing uses has, however, remained steady.

The non-fatal major injury rate for employees is expected to be 110.3 per 100,000, five per cent lower than the previous year and continues the recent downward trend. Slipping and tripping, and falling from a height, are expected to continue as the most common kinds of non-fatal major injury to employees.
