Internal and external dome cameras supplied by Vicon Industries, together with the company’s 1466 matrix, form the nucleus of a £150,000 security installation at the BDP-designed Smaralind Leisure and Shopping Centre in Reykjavik.

The complex is located to the south of the city, and attracted no less than 45,000 visitors on the day it opened to the public. The west of the centre is anchored by a Debenham’s store, while the main shopping mall plays host to famous brand names including Nike, Timberland and The Body Shop.

Vicon’s Surveyor 2000 domes are being used for the project. Extensive menu-based programming configures each of the units to individual end user requirements. The cameras also boast self-learn tours, allowing for in-sequence editing.

The 1466 Nova matrix accommodates pre-configured systems with a minimum of 32 inputs and 16 outputs (rising to a maximum of 256 inputs and 32 outputs). It offers extensive tour sequencing support for the domes.

There’s also provision for comprehensive tilting and a built-in interface for control by a host computer (achieved through a graphical PC configurator).

Vicon secured the contract through its close contacts with local security partner Securitas, who acted as both consultant and installer on the project.
