The off-site prefabrication of ten windshields for the University of Cambridge Laboratory project saved valuable on-site time on the project.
It also provided an innovative way of ventilating the £8.2 million building.

The seven-metre high units provided by Shepherd Engineering Services comprise both pvc extract and stainless steel boiler flues for the building. They were mounted directly onto the structural steel frame of the five-storey building and bolted into position, with no fixed concrete base.

A closely co-ordinated programme was used for the project as three individual companies from around the UK were involved in the manufacture of the units.
