Bluecoat House

This week’s #buildingdoodle sketch is by Martin Douglas, associate director of Bristol-based Pad Design (pad-design.com).

It shows Bluecoat House in Bath.Douglas says: “Bluecoat House dates from 1856 and was designed, shortly before his retirement, by the Bath city architect George Phillips Manners, and the lesser known John Elkington Gill. The striking tower in familiar coffee-coloured Bath limestone, with its swept hipped roof and distinctively shaped end-gable, provided an eye-catching landmark close to the Theatre Royal.”
