Contractors to work for nuclear rector site manager Magnox for the next ten years

Oldbury Nuclear Power Station

Contractors Balfour Beatty and Costain have been appointed to a £250m framework for construction work by nuclear site manager Magnox.

The contractors will provide engineering, design, enabling and construction across Magnox’s ten sites for the next ten years.

The firms beat out a list of competitors including Mace, Bam Nuttall and Interserve for the contract.

Much of the work centres around Magnox’s decommissioning of its reactors which include Hinkley Point A in Somerset, Chaplecross in Cumbria and Sizewell A in Suffolk.

Costain already has a contractor to do construction work across Magnox sites but this work will now be extended.
