Survey reveals recruitment targets will be 1.8% higher than 2010

Engineering and construction companies will slightly increase their intake of graduates in 2011, according to new figures.

A survey of construction firms including Atkins, Arup and Balfour Beatty found that the companies’ graduate recruitment targets for the coming year are 1.8% higher than for 2010, a boost for construction students facing the worst prospects in two decades.

The sector still lags behind graduate employers for the economy as a whole, however. The average increase in graduate recruitment targets for the 100 companies questioned in the Graduate Market in 2011 survey was 9.4%.

The only sectors recovering more slowly from the slump in recruitment were the armed forces (0%) and retail (0%).
