For those in search of wide-brimmed headgear (5 September, page 35) take a tip from me.
I needed a hat to keep off the sun while I was bricklaying. Among the veils and feathers, pink straw cartwheels and sober black felts was the solution – a coolie hat from the Japanese Alps The bamboo cage allowed air to flow and offered protection against knocks and the light straw cone kept the sun off my face and neck. Perfect.
