It isn’t just crane drivers who find themselves under pressure to “play the game and take risks to save time”. Just a few weeks ago an acquaintance who drives diggers was saying much the same thing.

While he has to hold the appropriate operators’ certificates, it is clients or site agents who then pressure him to bend the rules on the basis of: “If you don’t want to do the job that way, we’ll find someone else who will.” However if something goes wrong when said rules are being bent it will be the operators fault.
