Bellwater SL: There was no alliance

(Re: Skansen article, 4 February, page 19) A few days after we met in Madrid, Chris Seeley [of Skansen Interiors] wrote to me wishing us luck in the future as an independent company.

In the meeting, I had informed both Chris Seeley and Patrick Lucas-Box, the former business development director of Bellwater, that in my opinion it was too early to run with their idea of an “alliance” and that he could come back to me with proposals for the future.

Our current clients include the British Council in Madrid and David Lloyd Leisure in Barcelona – projects worth *9m. We have further projects for this year worth an additional *5m. The project with David Lloyd is as design-and-build main contractor on their first tennis club in Spain. This includes the construction of the shell and core – not the type of work that Skansen get involved with or understand. This was the main reason I did not want to proceed with the discussions.

Skansen: We stand by the information

Further to your article (4 February, page 19), I wanted to write to state clearly that we were very happy with what you wrote and stand by the information we gave you prior to publication.

Skansen would like to clarify that it is no longer discussing an alliance with Bellwater SL but will enter into an agreement with a separate Spanish-owned and Spanish-based contractor to serve mutual clients on the Iberian peninsula.
