Hyde Housing Association is part of a consortium chosen this week to develop one of the government’s flagship millennium communities.
It will work with developer Crest Nicholson on 600 affordable homes proposed as part of the 2000-unit Oakgrove Millennium Community in Milton Keynes.
Oakgrove is one of seven millennium communities being developed by regeneration agency English Partnerships to showcase best practice in building sustainable communities.
The affordable homes will include 100 for social rent, 100 sub-market rent, 100 low-cost sale and 300 shared ownership.
Hyde Housing will manage Oakgrove through a sustainable management organisation.
The SMO will also be responsible for environment-friendly features, such as recycling and alternative energy.
Tom Titherington, director of Hyde Northside and Hyde Plus, said: “Developers are getting better at ecological design, but there are questions over how you safeguard this over time.
“We think the [Oakgrove village] model will be a good way to run services.”
