Roofing contractor Allan Roofing is considering stepping in to complete residential projects left unfinished after Kelsey Roofing Industries went into administration.

Luke Wessely, managing director at Allan Roofing, said: “We haven’t been approached yet but we are considering bidding.” Wessely declined to comment on specific schemes but said it was looking at two or three projects in the residential sector.

Kelsey, which had worked on large schemes such as the Cardiff Millennium Stadium and the Royal Albert Hall, called in PriceWaterhouse Coopers as administrator last week. The firm had a £32m turnover in 2002 but its trading figures have shown a rapid decline.

Wessely said: “I think the problem with Kelsey was that it was just too cheap. I believe it has now closed most of its regional branches and condensed into a single trading office.” Kelsey Roofing was bought out from parent company Kelsey Industries by managing director Bob Hann and finance director Robert Samways in 2002.
