Retailer changes scheme from simple box to futuristic glass domes

Online retailer Amazon has ditched its original plans for its new headquarters in Seattle in favour of three huge interlinked glass domes.

The firm has also downsized the scheme from 84,000ft2 to 65,000ft2.

The domes, designed by local architect NBBJ, will feature offices, dining spaces, meeting rooms and high bay spaces on five floors capable of accommodating mature trees.

The development also includes three more conventional office towers.

Amazon secured planning permission for a large gold-coloured box-shaped building on the site last autumn.
