AMEC will work with Hawk International on 345km pipeline in Yemen.

Project Manager and services support firm Amec has won a £200m gas pipeline engineering, procurement and construction contract in Yemen with its partner Hawk International.

The two-year contract, (AMEC's share 55%) has been awarded to AMEC SPIE Capag by Yemen LNG company, a subsidiary of TOTAL.

The pipeline will carry gas from a field close to the town of Marib, 180km east of the Yemeni capital Sana'a, to an LNG terminal being built close to Bal Haf in the Gulf of Aden.

The project will involve the development of 320km of 38 inch gas pipeline and 25km of 20 inch pipeline together with a number of ancillary structures.

AMEC SPIE Capag Managing Director Daniel Gasquet said: "This important contract was won on the back of our long-standing relationships in the region and our reputation for delivering pipeline projects in harsh environments.”

“Work will commence immediately and we expect to eventually employ more than 1,200 people, including around 50 from the AMEC SPIE Capag project management team."
