Amec will manage the restart of two Canadian nuclear reactors in £245m contract.

Support services group Amec has further expanded into the nuclear sector by winning a £245m contract in Canada.

It has been appointed by Bruce Power, the nuclear power generator, to manage the restart of two nuclear reactors at the Bruce A power station in Ontario.

The contract is the first major win for Amec’s nuclear business, which was created in July following the acquisition of UK nuclear services company NNC Holdings.

Sir Peter Mason said that the contract win reflected the future direction of the company: “We expect to see a wave of investment as governments and companies worldwide start to look afresh at nuclear power. We expect this to be just the start,” he said.

The work is scheduled for completion in late 2009.
