Balfour Beatty’s company secretary and group general counsel has left his job after just over six months in the post.

Jonathan Lagan joined the UK’s largest contractor as head of legal in February following a 10 year stint as the legal director for retail giant Tesco.

But Lagan’s appointment as a director at Balfour Beatty was terminated at the end of last month, according to filings at Companies House.

A company spokesperson declined to comment on why Lagan had left the job.

But she said: “This is a routine management change, Jonathan left Balfour Beatty in the summer.”

She added: “We are currently exploring how we will replace the role.”

Balfour Beatty is currently in negotiations with Transport Scotland over £500m of extra costs the firm’s chief executive Leo Quinn said it shouldered with JV partner Galliford Try on the problem Aberdeen bypass. Quinn recently said the cost of the scheme had more than doubled to over £1bn.

He added the firm had until the end of the year to decide whether to pursue legal action against Transport Scotland.
