Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform confirms Shriti Vadera will take over from Stephen Timms

Baroness Vadera will have responsibility for construction, the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform has confirmed.

Baroness Vadera

Shriti Vadera, whose new title is business and competitiveness minister, will cover construction as part of her portfolio.

Vadera replaces Stephen Timms, who left his post as construction minister after six months to join the Department for Work and Pensions as minister of state for employment and welfare reform.

The move is part of the wider cabinet reshuffle following Peter Hain’s resignation as secretary of state for work and pensions.

Vadera becomes the seventh construction minister following Nick Raynsford departure in 2001.

John Hutton, secretary of state for business, enterprise and regulatory reform, said: “Shriti Vadera’s background in the City and at the Treasury is good news for the Department’s engagement with business.

"She will be a valuable addition to the Ministerial team and a strong advocate within Government for the needs of enterprise.”
