German architect Behnisch, Behnisch and Partner has won a competition to masterplan a £550m national sports complex near Dublin.
Behnisch, Behnisch and Partner, with engineer Buro Happold, was due to be named today by client Campus Stadium Ireland Development as masterplanner for the megaproject, on a 202 ha site in the outskirts of Dublin.

The team was chosen from a shortlist of seven, which included Richard Rogers Partnership, Building Design Partnership, RTKL and Daryl Jackson.

The sports facilities will be built by the quango Campus Stadium Ireland Development in partnership with private developers. The masterplan will include parks, gardens, public spaces and community facilities. It will also have commercial units and an educational science centre.

Behnisch, Behnisch and Partner designed the masterplan and facilities for the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Campus Stadium Ireland was also due to name 14 architects suitable to design the principal three elements of the masterplan – the stadium, the Olympic pool and the other sporting facilities.
