Construction of new buildings at PaddingtonCentral will allow work on Crossrail to take place if it gets the green light.

Bovis Lend Lease has started work on a steel and concrete deck for Crossrail at PaddingtonCentral, the mixed development close to Paddington Station.

The construction of the £30m Crossrail Deck, which will form the ground floor and foundations for new buildings on Phase 2 of the development, has been awarded to Bovis Lend Lease.

The dimensions of the deck will allow Crossrail to build rail sidings under new offices, which will enable building materials to be delivered to the Crossrail construction site.

The 350,000sq ft deck will provide a horizontal separation between the planned Crossrail work area and the new PaddingtonCentral structures, which means that the construction of the mixed use development will not be dependent on Crossrail being given the go-ahead by government.

Julian Barwick, joint managing director of Development Securities said: “This deck will give us the opportunity to develop further buildings at PaddingtonCentral independently of Crossrail.”
