The assistant editor of Building, Marcus Fairs, was named journalist of the year at the International Building Press Awards last week – the fifth year in a row that the magazine has scooped the accolade.
Fairs picked up a hat-trick of awards at the ceremony at the Four Seasons Hotel on London’s Park Lane, also winning the housing and building categories.

Business correspondent Mark Leftly was named young journalist of the year and deputy news editor Tom Broughton was highly commended in the same category.

The judges described Fairs’ journalism as “exceptional” and “a breath of fresh air”.

In the young journalist category, the judges were impressed by Mark Leftly’s “sure touch”. Fellow Building journalists Jo Smit, Martin Spring, Tom Lane and Alex Smith were also shortlisted for IBP awards.
