Building reporter George Hay has been named International Building Press journalist of the year in central London last week.

Hay, 25, was named young journalist of the year and then went on to be named overall IBP journalist of the year after being selected from the winners of 12 award categories.

This is the third time in the last four years that a Building writer has won the overall IBP award.

The judges said Hay displayed a “confident and satirical touch” and was “a very worthy winner”.

Three other Building writers were honoured: Thomas Lane was named construction journalist of the year, Mark Leftly won news writer of the year and Josephine Smit, who writes for the Building supplement Homes, collected the residential property journalist of the year award. Building’s sister magazine Property Week won the magazine of the year prize.
