Contractor to return to site of 29-storey Swansea Meridian Quay after walking off following payment disputes

Construction giant Carillion is expected to resume work on Wales' tallest residential building within the week.

The development's selling agency, Dawsons, confirmed on Wednesday that it was expecting Carillion to return to the site of the 29-storey Swansea Meridian Quay scheme, after payment discussions resumed on Tuesday.

The contractor walked off on 3 April following a series of payment disputes with developer Earthquake.

It then faced competition from local building firm Opco to resume work on the £70m tower.

But Chris Hope, senior partner with Dawsons, said: “We received a phone call from Earthquake in the last 24-hours. Although the contract hasn't been finalised, it's 70% likely that they will be back on site within a week to 10 days.”

Carillion was unavailable for comment.
