Carillion secures £175m contract for a new mixed development in Dubai's Festival City.

Carillion has won a £175m contract for a waterfront development in Dubai through its Middle East joint venture Al Futtaim Carillion.

The 1.8m sq ft retail, entertainment and hospitality centre is part of a £450m development in Dubai’s Festival City development, which is a mixed-use project stretching 2.3 miles.

The combined floor area of the initial phase of the Festival City development is 6m sq ft, and this will include new retail and marine facilities, a 5-star InterContinental Hotel, a high-rise office complex as well as parking for 8,000 cars.

Carillion chief executive John McDongough said: “Al Futtaim Carillion is recognised as one of the Middle East’s leading construction companies and this is underlined by securing this showcase contract.

The first phase of development is expected to be completed by the end of 2005 and the centre is due to be opened in the third quarter of 2006.
