Acquisition is firm’s third since 2024

Engineering firm Civic has continued its acquisition spree with the purchase of a Scottish structural and civil engineering consultancy.

The takeover of Edinburgh-based Quattro, which operates across residential, hotels, industrial and logistics, and heritage sectors for clients including Artisan, GSS Developments and Buccleuch Property, is Civic’s third acquisition since 2024.

Other recent acquisitions by Civic, previously known as Civic Engineers, include “place experts” New Practice and MEP consultancy Watt Energy & Consulting Engineers, which became part of the Manchester-headquartered firm last year.

These came after an earlier phase of expansion, which saw the firm launch a ground engineering consultancy and a standalone practice for Ireland.

Chief executive Stephen O’Malley told Building in 2024 that he thought the company could triple in size over the following half-decade through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions.

Speaking after the announcement of the latest acquisition, O’Malley said Quattro’s “long‑standing relationships and strong pipeline complement Civic’s ethos and strengthen our collective ability to deliver positive impact across the built environment”.

“This acquisition enables us to combine our respective strengths, expand our geographic reach and range, and reinforce Civic’s commitment to Scotland with a stronger footprint in Edinburgh,” he added.

“It also demonstrates the continued delivery of our growth strategy, helping us increase our scale, resilience and ability to compete, while ensuring both teams can have an even greater impact together.”

Quattro’s team of 15 engineers and technicians will fully integrate into Civic from the beginning of March.
