Emirate's construction department provides English version of new safety standards

A code for managing safety on sites in Dubai has been put out in English.

The emirate's building department issued the instructions earlier this week after an Arabic version was released last summer.

The code says that consultant engineers and contractors are responsible for the overall safety of a construction project.

It adds they are responsible for the safety of all employees at the site, with responsibility also extending to buildings close to the site and any other public facility that may be affected by the works.

Essa Al Maidour, the assistant director-general of planning and building affairs at Dubai Municipality, which includes the construction department, said: “In designing this manual, many of the safety standards existing in the developed nations were referred to.”
