The government has set out a plan to make eco-improvements to 7 million homes by 2020, in a move it says should create 65,000 construction jobs

The strategy, launched this week at the Ecobuild conference, also aims to insulate 6 million homes by the end of 2011 and all lofts and cavity walls by 2015. Legislation will be introduced for long-term green loans to pay for the works.

A Homes and Communities Agency consultation next week is likely to drop a commitment to make homes on its land meet level four of the Code for Sustainable Homes from April.
