Stuart Siddall has landed the biggest finance job in contracting – finance director of Amec, the UK’s largest building and civil engineering company.

Siddall, 46, joins from airports services firm Alpha Airports Group, where he was also finance director. He had previously been finance director of Balfour Beatty (1990-95) and Manweb.

The move will see him reunited with former Balfour boss Peter Mason, who is chief executive of Amec. Mason said: “We are delighted to have Stuart join Amec. He brings with him the best of both worlds –considerable experience in developing a series of businesses, together with a sound knowledge of engineering and construction.”

Amec director of corporate affairs Tony Williams said: “He is a team player who has got good experience in construction and a good background in services.” Siddall is expected to start in mid-to late June.

Amec’s share price was up 6p to 181p on Tuesday, the day of the announcement. One analyst said: “He looks like a good FD. He has done plc work before and has worked with Mason before.”

Siddall replaces Simon Batey, who recently left to join United Utilities.
