Former Severfield-Rowen chief executive Tom Haughey, has joined steel firm William Hare Group.

Haughey was chief executive of Severfield-Rowen for nearly six years. Before his time at the firm he was commercial director at British Steel, which later became Corus.

He will join William Hare Group, which operates throughout the UK, Middle East and Asia, as a non-executive director in September this year.

Haughey stood down from his role at Severfield-Rowen after the company racked-up massive cost overruns on the high profile Cheesgrater tower in London, later resulting in the firm writing off £10m.

In the 12 months to 31 March 2013 Severfield-Rowen reported a pre-tax loss of £28.9m as a result of this and cost overruns on other projects.
