Scheme is architect’s fifth in sector

FaulknerBrowns’ plans for a £270m indoor snow centre in Swindon have been given full planning consent.

North Star Village, which is being developed by SevenCapital, will become the fifth snow slope designed by the practice, and only the seventh in the UK.

The facility will include one of the UK’s largest ski and snow centres, with two real snow indoor ski slopes, around 500,000ft2 of retail, dining and leisure facilities and a 13-screen cinema which will include Europe’s largest IMAX screen.

The scheme, which sits adjacent to the town’s Oasis Leisure Centre, was previously occupied by the Great Western Railway Works, prior to demolition in 2009 to make way for redevelopment.

Work is expected to begin on site next May, with the build expected to take a little under two years.
