Galliard Homes confirms blaze started on its construction site

A large fire broke out at a Galliard Homes construction site on the Strand in central London this morning.

London Fire Brigade said 75 firefighters were tackling the blaze as of 12.30pm.

Galliard confirmed the blaze emananted from Marconi House, a hotel which is undergoing a Foster-designed refurbishment.

Billowing black smoke from the fire was visible across most of central London this morning.

A spokesperson for Galliard Homes said: “The fire service is now on site, the incident is now under control. We are now awaiting investigation and advice from the fire service.”
