Workers evacuated from City of London site but Bovis says it does not anticipate any structural damage.

A fire broke out this morning on Bovis Lend Lease's 1 Coleman Street site in the City of London.

The fire started at about 11 o'clock this morning and workers on the site were evacuated. No one was injured in the blaze.

A spokesperson for Bovis said that it appeared that the fire was caused by some polystyrene sheeting caught fire.

A spokesperson for Bovis said: "There was a lot of smoke but not a lot of flames. We do not have a report yet on the extent of the damage but we do not anticipate any structural damage."

Bovis workers were waiting for the all clear from the London Fire Brigade to go back on site but that was expected early afternoon.

The office tower is expected to be completed in January 2007. The frame of the building is already up and cladding work has started but it is not at fit-out stage.
