Balfour Beatty has 50% stake in Gammon which starts work on Centennial Campus this month

Gammon Construction has won a £150m contract for the Centennial Campus at the University of Hong Kong.

Gammon, which is 50% owned by Balfour Beatty, will deliver two packages of work, namely the Centennial Campus and the University Streetand Associated Works Phase 1.

It is scheduled to start on site in September 2009 with completion due in Spring 2012.

The first package of work includes three academic buildings of between nine and ten storeys. The second involves the construction of a lift tower and footbridge for a future metro station, a further footbridge and the restoration of three buildings. Landscaping works on a reservoir roof also forms part of the package.

Balfour Beatty chief executive, Ian Tyler, said: "The new campus would meet the learning needs of the current century while respecting the university history."
