Lead contractor Midgard cleared to start construction on 581-home scheme

Midgard has been given the all-clear to start construction on a 581-home residential tower scheme in central Birmingham after the plans were granted gateway 2 approval.

The firm is lead contractor on the luxury Edition Birmingham development, which is being developed by Sphere Group and its partner Select Property.

The scheme sits directly behind the Library of Birmingham

Located directly behind the Library of Birmingham on Centenary Square, the Weedon Architects-designed scheme consists of two linked blocks, the 46-storey Centenary Tower and the 15-storey Park Residence.

All homes in the latter have already sold out with the block set to start in the coming weeks and complete by 2027, with Centenary Tower following in 2028.

Residents of the scheme will have access to high-end gym and spa faciltiies including a 20m pool, a hydro pool plunge pool sauna, steam room, and a climbing wall on the 46th floor of Centenary Tower overlooking the city.

The buildings will also contain a dining lounge on the 44th and 45th storeys, a co-working lounge and an outdoor working space on a 14th floor garden terrace, along with a 9,000sq ft podium terrace, a cinema screen and a space for barbecues.

The project team also includes Arcadis and SOM as engineering consultant. Weedon Architects acted as the scheme’s principal designer.
