Visitors’ centre is architect’s first project in Asia

Grimshaw’s visitors’ centre at the National Ecology Centre in Seocheon, South Korea, has been completed.

The project is the first in Asia for the architect, most famous in the UK for its Eden Project in Cornwall.

The Ecorium, built by Samsung, is designed to be an educational facility about the globe’s different ecosystems and boasts five biomes – including an Antarctic region.

The biomes use a special lightweight glazing system to increase the amount of daylight, which encourages the growth of the plants.

The environmental systems were designed by Atelier Ten; Zoo horticulture acted as botanical design specialist and Lyons Zaremba designed the exhibit.
