Wakefield council has backed this design by SMC Alsop for The Orangery, a grade II*-listed building in Wakefield.

The £3.25m extension and refurbishment for client Public Arts will turn the building, which was previously a burial site and zoological garden, into a Creative Centre for the Built Environment. The scheme will have a glazed rear ground-floor extension and an angled aerial pavilion. It will also create a public square to link it to the Westgate masterplan, which includes the relocation of the London-Leeds mainline train station. Environmental engineer is Atelier 10.
