NHS Trust refuses to develop hospital services at three sites

The £711m Leicester hospitals PFI scheme has been scrapped.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust announced today that it would not proceed with the scheme to develop hospital services at three sites. A joint venture between John Laing, Laing O’Rourke and Serco had been appointed preferred bidder on the project in 2004.

The budget for the project was reduced from £904m in 2006 following a strategic review of major health PFI projects. It is understood that the required scope of the project could not be delivered within the new parameters.
