New University village will bring students together, and release property for local families.

The University of Sheffield has chosen Lend Lease as the preferred partner for a scheme to build a student village in the Endcliffe and Ranmoor area in the south-west of the city. Once granted planning approval, the scheme to accommodate 4000 students could begin this summer and be completed in three years.

Sheffield students are currently scattered through out the city’s residential neighbourhoods; the University hopes that by creating a student village it will be able to return many of the residential properties to local families.

The proposed student village, which has been designed by architect FaulknerBrowns, will include new and refurbished accommodation, and will be built by Bovis Lend Lease, and maintained over a 40-year contract period by Lend Lease.

Adrian Chamberlain, Lend Lease chief executive, said: “This project confirms our continuing success in public/private partnerships and our commitment to the education sector."
